Stuff we like: TAIYO ONORATO & NICO KREBS

What a relief to see such a complex documentation of reality depicted in a very playful and ironic manner whilst still maintaining a very critical approach to it. Through their series of documentary images Onorato and Krebs don’t just condemn a reality of illegality, but they question and examin.
The pair very intelligently politicizes the geographical dimension in which they operate and the nature of the photograph itself. So, whilst on one side they investigate the permanently unfinished building sites by physically extending their structures and underlining their absurdity, on the other hand they uncover the two dimensional space of the photograph and the ambivalent nature of documentary photography.

…and what to say of the black and white quality of the photographs taken with a large format camera? We just love it!
