Lead 3D Artist / Generalist at Recom Farmhouse London

We’re looking for a top flight Lead 3D Artist / Generalist to join our London studio.

We always try to push a project further than our clients expect, discovering new techniques that are more photorealistic, faster, more flexible and aesthetic. We want you to be enthusiastic about this too, to be a confident, self-motivated creative collaborator and innovator, developing new portfolio projects with the team.

We are essentially looking for a talented and experienced virtual photographer.

As we are a small team you will have to wear many hats. You will be working as a CG Generalist lead artist, supported by a TD, a mid-weight artist and IT support, and reporting to the Creative Director. You have a strong sense for contemporary aesthetics, photorealism, composition and lighting and are able to apply these to both motion and stills commercial campaigns. Often these are for the premium automotive sector, but we work in many fields, from fine art to fashion.

You’ll love to work with variety and flexibility, as a CG Generalist on projects ranging from automotive advertising campaigns, via jewellery animations, to fine art. You’ll be taking the initiative to move things forward, and if something doesn’t work well, make it work better and share your ideas with the team. You’ll develop workflows in collaboration with our TD, and you should be curious and interested in new technologies.

As part of the small and friendly team in London, you’ll also join a much bigger family in our studios in New York, Berlin, Stuttgart, Munich and Sofia, where our amazing and experienced artists communicate happily via systems such as Slack, to collaborate and support each other. You’d be reporting to the London Creative Director.

You’ll already have a high level of proficiency in Maya and V-Ray, including:

  • Excellent understanding of light in the real world and its corresponding representation in 3D rendering software.
  • Excellent understanding of real world camera parameters and their representation in Maya/V-Ray.
  • Sound knowledge of animation in Maya
  • Creating final images and animations using V-Ray and Maya, in-depth knowledge of setting up render layers, optimising and troubleshooting.

And advanced proficiency in one or more of the following:

  • Houdini
  • Nuke
  • Deadline
  • Z-Brush
  • Vred
  • Arnold
  • Substance
  • Mari

Additionally, you’ll have:

  • A strong creative eye and sense for contemporary style that matches our client base
  • Outstanding sense for photorealism
  • Excellent artistic execution in composition and lighting.
  • Experience of photorealistic texturing using a painting package such as Substance Painter  and/or Photoshop to create texture maps for 3D models
  • Modelling hard surfaces for replacement of CAD parts or other objects as per layouts
  • Basic Rigging
  • Ability to troubleshoot
  • Good client communication skills written and oral

Working environment:
The Clapton Tram Depot is a great working environment of converted buildings around a cobbled street / courtyard with a variety of small and interesting creative businesses. There is plenty of bike parking inside our big warehouse space and we’re close to Clapton train station. We believe strongly in a good work/life balance and enjoyable working conditions. We keep to a 40 hour work week whenever possible, with flexible start and end times (deadlines permitting).
We love to see creative, personal and professional development and support training, personal projects, self-learning, conferences and field trips such as exhibitions.

We always take time out to sit down to our communal lunch, which is provided – we decide together what we want each week, and order a wide range for all tastes and preferences. We all realise the importance of coffee and have an excellent espresso machine.

Every two weeks, we also have a masseur visit on site, to keep your Wacom arm in tip-top shape!

If you’re interested in working with us, please send your CV and five portfolio images or animations to london@recomfarmhouse.com, with a little about why you chose these projects, what you did, and what you especially like about each one, and your salary expectations. Please include “Lead 3D Artist / Generalist” in the subject line of your email. Please also include your salary expectations.

This is a London based role only.

We’re looking forward to hearing from you : – )
