Senior Pipeline TD at Recom Farmhouse London

We’re looking for a creative Senior Pipeline TD to join our London studio.
You will be developing our Maya/VRay/Deadline/Nuke pipeline, collaborate with our CG artists to develop workflows and toolsets, and liaise with our IT team.
You’ll also have responsibility for aligning our NYC pipeline with London.

We always try to push a project further than our clients expect, discovering new techniques that are more photorealistic, faster, more flexible and aesthetic. We want you to be excited about this too, to be a confident collaborator and innovator.

As part of the small and friendly team in London, you’ll also join a much bigger family in our studios in New York, Berlin, Stuttgart, Munich and Sofia, where our amazing and experienced artists communicate happily via systems such as Slack, to collaborate and support each other. We support self-learning and personal projects. You’d be reporting to the London Managing Director.

Skills and Software:

  • Ideally you’ll have a VFX background with some experience in Maya, V-Ray, Deadline, and Nuke.
  • Maya/VRay experience setting up render layers, optimising and troubleshooting
  • Python scripting skills, especially for Maya, Deadline and Nuke APIs

Additionally, we are looking for:

  • Proficient knowledge of the technical aspects of 3D such as AOVs and optimisation techniques
  • Good Understanding of render farm infrastructure ideally including Amazon AWS Cloud render
  • Interest in developing efficiency and streamlining the pipeline
  • Ability to troubleshoot and work in collaboration with IT
  • Experience of asset management
  • Experience in working in multi-site environments

Nice-To-Haves:

  • C++ and OSL scripting
  • ACES and OCIO experience
  • Windows, macOS and Linux proficiency

Lead 3D Artist / Generalist at Recom Farmhouse London

Role:
We’re looking for a top flight Lead 3D Artist / Generalist to join our London studio.

We always try to push a project further than our clients expect, discovering new techniques that are more photorealistic, faster, more flexible and aesthetic. We want you to be enthusiastic about this too, to be a confident, self-motivated creative collaborator and innovator, developing new portfolio projects with the team.

We are essentially looking for a talented and experienced virtual photographer.

As we are a small team you will have to wear many hats. You will be working as a CG Generalist lead artist, supported by a TD, a mid-weight artist and IT support, and reporting to the Creative Director. You have a strong sense for contemporary aesthetics, photorealism, composition and lighting and are able to apply these to both motion and stills commercial campaigns. Often these are for the premium automotive sector, but we work in many fields, from fine art to fashion.

You’ll love to work with variety and flexibility, as a CG Generalist on projects ranging from automotive advertising campaigns, via jewellery animations, to fine art. You’ll be taking the initiative to move things forward, and if something doesn’t work well, make it work better and share your ideas with the team. You’ll develop workflows in collaboration with our TD, and you should be curious and interested in new technologies.

As part of the small and friendly team in London, you’ll also join a much bigger family in our studios in New York, Berlin, Stuttgart, Munich and Sofia, where our amazing and experienced artists communicate happily via systems such as Slack, to collaborate and support each other. You’d be reporting to the London Creative Director.


Software:

You’ll already have a high level of proficiency in Maya and V-Ray, including:

  • Excellent understanding of light in the real world and its corresponding representation in 3D rendering software.
  • Excellent understanding of real world camera parameters and their representation in Maya/V-Ray.
  • Sound knowledge of animation in Maya
  • Creating final images and animations using V-Ray and Maya, in-depth knowledge of setting up render layers, optimising and troubleshooting.

And advanced proficiency in one or more of the following:

  • Houdini
  • Nuke
  • Deadline
  • Z-Brush
  • Vred
  • Arnold
  • Substance
  • Mari

Additionally, you’ll have:

  • A strong creative eye and sense for contemporary style that matches our client base
  • Outstanding sense for photorealism
  • Excellent artistic execution in composition and lighting.
  • Experience of photorealistic texturing using a painting package such as Substance Painter  and/or Photoshop to create texture maps for 3D models
  • Modelling hard surfaces for replacement of CAD parts or other objects as per layouts
  • Basic Rigging
  • Ability to troubleshoot 
  • Good client communication skills written and oral

You will be working on some of the more technical aspect of projects, which could be CG landscapes, physics simulations, or developing complex shader sets and also be developing our Maya/VRay/Deadline pipeline, help our CG artists develop toolsets, help us improve our workflow with your scripting knowledge, and liaise with our IT team.

Junior Retoucher at Recom Farmhouse London – Applications closed

This is a two year full-time junior position, and you will spend at least 20% of your time on training projects – an opportunity for a motivated junior level retoucher to work with and learn from the best. You will be using primarily Adobe Photoshop and will already have an excellent understanding of the application.

Recom Farmhouse is a creatively demanding workplace where boundaries are pushed and where personal, technical, creative growth is supported. Use of all technical equipment for portfolio projects is offered.

In close collaboration and with support from Head of Post Production and Senior Retouchers, you will aim to create high quality imagery, some containing CG elements, for stills and animation, using specialist software. You’ll support the post production team wherever possible and train to develop creative retouching skills. You should be technically minded with a fine art sensibility and interest in contemporary art.

Continuous training will be a large part of the job, working on a  large and varied set of test images with support and constructive feedback from Senior Retouchers and Head of Post Production. Training will be in:

  • Colour and grading
  • Automotive retouching
  • Composition and layering
  • Working with CG render passes and their advanced use.
  • Beauty and lifestyle retouching
  • Pipeline and different workflows
  • Capture One

As part of this role, you can expect to:

  • Composite images from multiple photographs.
  • Process files and accurately prep images where necessary.
  • Composite render passes and integrate with photography.
  • Check and assess supplied photography for sufficient resolution and quality.
  • Research and source stock imagery from external suppliers when required.
  • Ensure RFH workflow and file handling is followed.
  • With support from Head of Post Production, Creative Director or senior retouchers, accurately address mark-ups without missing comments.
  • Liaise with Project Manager, Head of Post Production or Senior retouchers during day to day retouching. Awareness of deadlines in order to deliver projects on time and flag any timing issues as soon as the concern arises.
  • Gain experience in live projects wherever possible and support the retouching team whenever necessary.
  • Ensure companies’ data security measures are followed at all times.
  • Suggest and be involved in portfolio projects.
  • Keep up to date with technical and creative developments within the post production industry and fine art photography.
  • Support the Social Media Manager.
  • General awareness in the studio, help maintain a tidy working environment, answer the phone and door, run errands, help with lunch and help look after clients on site.
